The Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA) is pleased and to announce the finalists for the 37th Annual Alberta Film & Television Awards, celebrating excellence and outstanding achievement in Albertan film, television and new media.
From the 223 class entries and 325 craft entries comprising this year’s competition the judges had a difficult task in trimming the entries down to today’s list of finalists.
This year, Alberta productions, from commercials, new media, and both long and short form fiction and non-fiction are competing for 22 Class awards. In addition, Alberta’s talented screenwriters, costume and production designers, cinematographers, editors, directors, make-up artists, special effects artists, sound technicians and composers are competing in 29 Craft categories. Each winner receives the prestigious Rosie Award, which this year is sporting a brand new look.
Two individual productions led the nominations for the most awards with 10 each – “Anash and the Legacy of the Sun-Rock, Cycle II,” from Edmonton based Panacea Entertainment, and the “Heartland” television series, from Calgary based SEVEN/24 Films. Close behind with 9 nominations is the television series “Blackstone,” from Edmonton based Prairie Dog Film + Television.
The company with the most finalists is Seven24 Films (with 15 nominations from the “Heartland” series and television movie), followed by Calgary based Corkscrew Media (14 nominations), Calgary based White Iron (13 nominations), Edmonton based Clearwater Documentary (12 nominations), Panacea Entertainment (10 nominations), and Prairie Dog Film + Television (9 nominations).

Hello Members! As you can see, AMPIA has been reborn as… AMPIA! The former Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association is now the Alberta Media Production Industries Association. Only two words have changed, but they reflect much bigger changes in our industry, with the increase in digital production in Alberta. Our new name embraces this change, and with it, we have updated our brand and our logo.
Next up will be an updated website. Hold on folks – it’s coming (finally)!!
