Peter was a producer at Corkscrew Media in Calgary, where he produced two one-hour CBC comedy specials, and launched and managed a daily live game show for CMT; and a senior producer at Pyramid Productions, where he directed and produced a variety of projects including the 104-part hit series Whatever Happened To?; several episodes of A&E Biography; Global TV’s documentary series Inside Hollywood; and Bravo’s Books Into Film.

Also in Calgary Peter directed, produced and wrote Open Homes, a 65-part home-reno reality series for Global TV at White Iron Inc.

Before that, Peter was producer, creative producer, co-creator and writer of Liography, a 26-part half-hour comedy series starring Leslie Nielsen, produced in Halifax for The Comedy Network. At Salter Street Films he produced season I of Mrs. Greenthumbs, and created and ran the website 22 Online for This Hour has 22 Minutes. Peter was a senior producer at ATV News in Halifax. He began his journalism career in print, for the Halifax Daily News, Ottawa Citizen and Medicine Hat News.

Peter edits using Avid Premiere and Final Cut and is proficient in video and still camera operation.

Past Projects

2023

In early 2023 TPL launched Landmarks, a new documentary series for Telus TV.

This year TPL will produce a feature documentary film called Flashback, about Edmonton’s legendary disco club.

2022

In the spring Peter was Story Producer for Finally Caught, a new (26×60) true-crime series produced for A&E by Black Watch Entertainment in Winnipeg and airing in Canada on Super Channel. Peter supervised the story department, managing the writing team and editing scripts for production.

Another true-crime series recently produced by Peter for Discovery ID, Killer in Plain Sight (52×30), airs on Amazon Prime.

In the summer and fall Peter shot, wrote and produced Landmarks Season One (5 x 10) for TELUS.

2021

TPL provided writer/ producer/ director/ concept creator services for Growing Concerns II, the second season of a light documentary series streaming on TELUS Optik. The series is about advances in farming, ranching and rural and urban food and environmental issues.

2019-2020

In 2020 Peter Hays was Communications and Media Director for 4Seasons Transportation Ltd., a company that provides school transport for children with disabilities. There he produced marketing and training videos, assembled a same-day video message bulletin production studio, created and built a unique training bus simulator, and transformed various spaces for corporate social gatherings.

Peter also wrote and directed the first season of Growing Concerns in 2020. 

In 2019 Peter wrote and was creative producer of a feature documentary about Formula 1 racer Gilles Villeneuve, filmed in the U.K., France, Italy, Canada and Switzerland. It was broadcast nationally on French CBC in June of 2020.

2016 -2018

Peter produced, directed and written several projects in Calgary, including a feature documentary about Gilles Villeneuve for CBC Radio Canada; a CTV Special Presentation documentary Yes or No about the Calgary Olympics bid; and a 49-part bilingual series Car Stories / Histoires de Chars, for UNIs TV. He was also top writer/story producer for In Plain Sight (52×30), now airing on Discovery ID and produced by Frantic Films of Winnipeg.

Between 2013 and 2015

Peter worked as a freelance story editor for Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto production companies. During this time he was senior story editor on Emergency, a factual series for Slice TV at Force Four Entertainment; story editor on Polar Bear Town for OLN at Merit Motion Pictures in Winnipeg; story editor on Yukon Gold I and II, and Timber Kings at Paperny Entertainment Inc.; Pyros 2 and Ice Pilots NWT for Omnifilm Entertainment; and supervising story editor on season two of The Liquidator for Anaid Entertainment.
