🎬 AMPIA Board Member Justine Gamez Huckabay discusses the proposed U.S. film tariffs in the Edmonton Journal
Following a recent announcement from former U.S. President Donald Trump proposing a 100% tariff on foreign-made films, AMPIA Board Member Justine Gamez Huckabay spoke to the Edmonton Journal about what this could mean for Alberta’s screen industry.
Huckabay emphasized that while the proposal is still conceptual, AMPIA is actively engaging with the Alberta government, Alberta Film Commission, and Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) to evaluate potential impacts and ensure that federal stakeholders are fully informed.
📣 “The nature of our industry is built on cross-border collaboration,” Huckabay noted. “We’re closely monitoring developments and continuing to support our members, including those currently working with U.S.-based partners.”
🎥 The article also highlights Alberta’s film economy, which has generated over $1.5 billion in activity and more than 14,000 jobs to date.
