Marshall Copithorne is a third generation Alberta commercial beef cattle rancher and resides on the original pioneer family ranch, CL Ranches Ltd., west of Calgary in the foothills of Alberta, Canada established in 1887. He is an excellent horseman and has flown his own aircraft in his ranch business for over fifty years.

Marshall Copithorne pretends to be retired with some primary interests involving his wife and partner Teresa, and six uniquely responsible children, plus nine very active and progressive grandchildren.

Teresa Costanzi was born in Rome, Italy, where she lived until she moved permanently to the CL Ranches in the Jumping Pound area. Coming from a family of architects, and having lived in the city of Rome all her life, Teresa’s interest fell on art history acquiring a degree in the field.
Marshall and Teresa involved themselves in the greater community of Calgary by way of the Calgary Stampede Directorship, Oil and Gas Corporate functions, Livestock events and organizations. They even involved themselves in a large ranching and world beef marketing company in Uruguay, South America. Marshall and Teresa became well acquainted with the local ranching community and enjoyed the life on the haciendas.

In 1989 the ranch adventure in Alberta became involved in the movie business with the advent of the Lonesome Dove TV series. The set was built in 1994 and has continued to be active since. The CL Western Town became integral part of diversification in the agricultural enterprise. Teresa took over full-time active management of the business as a “retirement” project. It soon became a very apparent that it was a stimulating, challenging but fun activity which brought many satisfactions including the Global Location of The Year award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

Teresa and Marshall continue pursuing the goals of faith, freedom, liberty, Property Rights as their unifying features.
