The 12th Annual Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) runs from Monday April 13-18 at Globe Cinema. Tickets & Festival Passes are on sale now.

Jump Studios Up for an EMMY!

Along with production partner ESPN, Calgary’s Jump Studios is nominated for Outstanding Post Produced Graphic Design for the 2014 NBA Draft. This show tease looks at rookie players and all the media hype surrounding the draft. But these guys are more than just the hype, more than just social media chatter, they are skilled athletes about to step onto the world stage. Narrated by Chuck D., this piece drives home the point they will not succumb to the pressure, or the chatter, or the hype.

With over 50 years of combined broadcast experience, partners Jeff August and Brian Vos have received multiple Emmy®, BDA, regional and local industry honors for their energizing and innovative work.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Science, 36th annual Sports Emmy Awards will be announced on May 5, 2015.

Official Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Calgary Film Centre

Calgary Economic Development, along with the Government of Alberta and The City of Calgary, broke ground on the Calgary Film Centre. The Centre will be an important part of the film, television and creative industries sector in Southern Alberta, with over 80,000 square feet of purpose-built facilities to support indigenous, national and international screen-based productions.

Three Emmy Awards for FARGO!

Nomadic Pictures has been knocking it out of the park! This year the Calgary company launched Klondike, an original miniseries for the Discovery Channel, starring Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Tim Roth and Abbie Cornish. Season IV of Hell On Wheels returned in August and now the team as three Emmys to add to their collection for the TV series of FARGO.

Upstart Calgary September 30 – December 2, 2013

Upstart is an Alberta based film and television talent development program presented by AMPIA, Jonathan Joffe Pictures, funded through Alberta Film, Telefilm and SAIT, and coordinated by Calgary actor Karen Ryan. Now in its 14th term in Calgary, over 240 Upstart participants have performed in hundreds of scenes which have been shot and edited for the review of everyone involved.

The program brings together local actors, writers, and directors to perform simple scene studies for the camera which are shot and edited for the review of everyone involved.

Calgary’s Upstart sessions will be held on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 10:00 pm at SAIT, room MD 212 beginning Monday, September 30 (no classes Thanksgiving and Remembrance Day).  The program will run for 8 weeks.  The group will shoot 16 scene studies, rotating the participants through a variety of actor/director/writer combinations. Two scenes are filmed per week, those scenes are then edited for viewing the following week. Directors will direct 4 out of 8 nights and Actors will act in all 8 scenes.

Auditions/interviews* will be held at SAIT on the evening of Monday, September 9, 2013Please contact calgaryupstart@gmail.com to arrange an audition/interview time.  Actors, please send a copy of your resume and head-shot as well.
