Remembering Arthur Hiller

AMPIA is saddened to learn of the passing of legendary Edmonton-born director Arthur Hiller.

Hiller spent more than a decade working in television before a career in feature films, including “The Americanization of Emily,” “Silver Streak” and “Love Story,” which earned him an Oscar nomination. He’s worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars including Peter O’Toole, Julie Andrews, Warren Beatty, and Al Pacino. Growing up in Edmonton, Hiller attended Victoria High School, where he was classmates with Leslie Nielsen. He served as president of the Directors Guild of America from 1989 to 1993 and was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2007.

Arthur Hiller died Wednesday in Los Angeles of natural causes.
