Award-winning documentary Filmmaker and Producer Adam Scorgie (The Good Son, The Culture High) will be featured as part of Edmonton’s Culture Collective 5th Variety Showcase at the Garneau Theatre on Thursday, September 24. Attendees will get a sneak peek at two of Scorgie’s upcoming documentaries:

CHASING EVEL: The Life Of Robbie Knievel

AMPIA is co-presenting a special 25th anniversary screening of the award-winning film BYE BYE BLUES, along with our partners FAVA and Metro Cinema on Friday, April 17.
Multiple Rosie Award winning director Anne Wheeler will be in attendance for the screening and there will be a special musical performance by the film’s star, Rebecca Jenkins and her husband Joel Bakan.

The Global Visions Film Festival premieres the highly anticipated documentary, The Culture High, on Wednesday, October 8th in Edmonton. Director Brett Harvey and Edmonton Producer Adam Scorgie reunite on this follow up of their hit documentary, The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, to delve deeper into the controversial ‘War on Drugs’.
FIL FRASER is an award-winning filmmaker, journalist, writer and human rights activist with an impressive career spanning more than half a century. He is a leading pioneer in Alberta’s film industry, responsible for founding the Alberta Film & Television Awards in 1974 and producing Alberta’s first feature Why Shoot The Teacher? (1977), which became the highest grossing film in Canada that year. Why Shoot The Teacher? will be screened during this week’s Alberta Culture Days so we checked in with Fil Fraser on the 37th Anniversary of the film and where he feels our industry is headed.

Producer Fil Fraser and Screenwriter James DeFelice will be in attendance. There will be a reception afterwards and all are invited to help celebrate the 37th Anniversary of the film!
AMPIA’s 40th Anniversary Screening of Francis Damberger’s ‘Road to Saddle River’ was a resounding success! More than 250 people packed Metro Cinema on September 29 to see the Cult Classic Cowboy Comedy on the big screen in glorious 35mm Cinemascope. Director Francis Damberger was joined on stage afterwards by Actors Paul Jarrett, Sam Bob and Michael Hogan for a spirited Q & A with the audience. Many of the crew were also on hand, including Cinematograher Peter Wunstorf, CSC, and Sound Recordist Garrell Clark, who traded war stories afterwards at the High Level Diner with Producers Dale Phillips and Graydon McCrae.
Thanks to the Edmonton Film Festival, Metro Cinema and the Edmonton Film Commission for their support of the screening, which was presented as part of the EIFF and Alberta Culture Days. Thanks also to Alberta Beef for the 500 packages of beef jerky, all of which were consumed by the audience! Here’s to the next 40 Years of AMPIA!
