Guest Post from Benjamin Ross Hayden
The Northlander is a Métis Canadian debut feature film starring Corey Sevier (Lassie, The Immortals), Roseanne Supernault (Maina, Blackstone), Michelle Thrush (Jimmy P, Blackstone), Nathaniel Arcand (Heartland), and Julian Black Antelope (Blackstone, Penny Dreadful).
As a director, the ensemble cast stood for this tale turning Canadian history into fantasy mythology. When casting The Northlander, the cast was vital to the heartbeat of the narrative. By virtue of the strong on-screen actor chemistry established through Blackstone, Arctic Air, and Path of Souls, The Northlander was made. Presented at Perspective Canada program at Cannes Film Festival, that was exactly one year from the start of writing the movie. At Cannes, The Northlander discovered a Canadian distribution deal with Raven Banner, and Spotlight Pictures for international.
Recently, The Northlander embarked on a national theatrical release beginning October 14th, where the theatrical Box Office was so strong that The Northlander is being held over another week in Calgary until October 27th. On the eve of the theatrical release, The Northlander trended on CBC Eyeopener.
Presently, The Northlander is traveling next to Landmark Cinemas, Edmonton October 27th – Nov 3rd with four daily showtimes at City Centre Downtown Landmark Cinema – Proudly sponsored by Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA) and Alberta Film. We invite you be our guest in Edmonton premiere October 27th 6PM. An After-gala reception to follow.
As of October 15th, The Northlander is an official selection to nine international film festivals including the 40th Montreal World Film Festival, 18th imagineNATIVE Film Festival, 18th Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre, Feratum Fantastic Film Festival, and more. Beginning May 1st 2017 The Northlander signed a broadcast deal across Canada with Aboriginal People’s Television Network (APTN), and is in-development with Canada Media Fund (CMF) as a six-part Television mini-series.
