Alberta Nominees – Canadian Screen Awards

We are pleased to announce the following Alberta nominees for the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards!

Blackstone produced by Edmonton’s Prairie Dog Film & Television has been nominated for Best Dramatic Series. Calgary’s Young Drunk Punk (Seven24 Films) and Edmonton’s Tiny Plastic Men (Mosaic Entertainment) are both nominated for Best Comedy Series.  Tiny Plastic Men is also nominated for Best Writing in a Comedy Program – Chris Craddock, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role – Belinda Cornish.

The sci-fi series Borealis (Seven24 Films) co-written by Andrew Wreggitt was nominated for Best Visual FX.

Edmonton Film Prize Winner Niobe Thompson is nominated for Best Direction in a Documentary or Factual Series for The Great Human Odyssey (Clearwater Documentary), which also picked up nominations for Best Science or Nature Documentary Program, Best Original Music for a Non-Fiction Program, and Best Cross-Platform Project – Non-Fiction (Niobe Thompson, Mathew Janzen, aAron Munson).

Calgary’s Corkscrew Media is nominated for Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program or Series for Balletlujah, featuring the Alberta Ballet’s interpretation of the music of K.D. Lang.

Edmonton Director Dylan Pearce is nominated for Best Direction in a Dramatic Program or Limited Series for the feature 40 Below and Falling and Rosvita Dransfelt is nominated for the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program for Anti-Social Limited.

Panacea Entertainment has five nominations for the feature film Forsaken (starring Kiefer and Donald Sutherland), including Achievement in Cinematography, Costume Design, Sound Editing, Make-Up (Gail Kennedy) and Art Direction (Ken Rempel).

Congratulations to CTV News Edmonton‘s Daryl McIntyre for his nomination on Best News Anchor, Local.

In the Theatrical Documentary and Short Film categories, Edmonton’s Trevor Anderson and Blake McWilliam are nominated for The Little Deputy, which was recently awarded Second Runner Up in the Edmonton Film Prize.
