The Alberta Media Production Industries Association is pleased to announce that Tom Radford will be honoured at the 2012 David Billington Award Luncheon to be held on October 27, 2012 from 12:30pm – 2:30pm, at The Matrix Hotel. A pre-award reception will be held at 11:30am.
Tom Radford’s career spans over forty years in the Canadian television and film industries as a Writer, Director, and Producer. He is a two time Gemini winner and born to a Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper family that came to Alberta in 1905.
“Tom Radford’s impact on Alberta’s Media Production industry is immense,” says Bill Evans, Executive Director of the Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA). “From winning the first ever Alberta Film Award in 1974 for his film Ernest Brown: Pioneer Photographer, to his work with the National Screen Institute and the NFB, to his recent Gemini Awards, he continues to enrich our community today. In 1986 Tom also worked on a film with David Billington himself, so we are immensely pleased to be honouring him with the Billington Award.”
When Radford co-directed Codebreakers with Niobe Thompson in 2001, the double Gemini Awards it garnered for “Best Photography” and “Best Science and Nature Documentary” marked the tenth time his films have won national or international honours. Shortly before, Radford and Thompson’s Inuit Odyssey won “Best Science and Nature Documentary” at the Banff World Television Awards.
