In celebration of International Women’s Day, AMPIA is pleased to announce this year’s host and theme of the ROSIE Awards. Award-winning actress Michelle Thrush will take the stage in an evening designed to celebrate the women who have made an impact in all areas of Alberta’s Screen Industries. This will be the first time the ROSIES Gala will have a solo female host.
“I’m thrilled and honoured as a proud Albertan to be a part of this celebration of artistic excellence and to help showcase women in the film and television industry,” Michelle said.
Michelle Thrush is no stranger to the ROSIE Awards, with multiple wins for Best Actress in her role as Gail Stoney on the hard-hitting series Blackstone. Michelle has worked professionally in film, television and theatre for more than 25 years with her first film role coming at the age of seventeen. With over forty professional credits in the entertainment industry, Michelle has won multiple awards.
On the heels of Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board and the Canadian Media Fund announcing measures to expand gender equity, Board Chair Michael Jorgensen is pleased to see AMPIA taking similar strides.
“Since the day AMPIA was founded women have played a critical role within the entire industry at both the provincial and federal level,” Jorgensen said. “I couldn’t be more pleased that this year’s ROSIE Awards will be a celebration of those pioneers and their contemporary trailblazers who continue to shape our industry as content creators, role models and leaders.
This year marks the 43rd celebration of the Alberta Film & Television Awards. The 2017 nominees will be announced in simultaneous press conferences in Edmonton and Calgary this March, and tickets will be on sale soon after. The ROSIES Gala will be held in Edmonton on April 29 at the Shaw Conference Centre.
