Staying true to Edmonton’s reputation of being the horror capital of Alberta, AMPIA presents “For the Love of Horror,” a panel discussion with local genre experts.
Travis Shewchuk is a special effects artist, prop maker and sculptor. He is the founder of Ravenous EFX, a full service special effects studio. Working on numerous films and television productions, he has also created props for musical acts such as Rob Zombie, Powerman 5000, Alice Cooper and Zombie Girl.
Lindsey McNeill is a Rosie nominated screenwriter and actress from Edmonton. She created the feature film/web series Truckstop Bloodsuckers (Mosaic Entertainment) on Bite TV in 2012. Her latest project in development Gillian’s Just Right placed in the Top 15 of Canada’s CineCoup Film Accelerator and won the From Our Dark Side genre contest from the Women in Film & Television Vancouver.
Kevin Martin is the owner of The Lobby DVD Shop, one of the last video stores standing in Edmonton, and is also Co-Founder of Edmonton’s genre film festival DEDFEST. Kevin has recently stepped in front of the camera as the star of the genre web series Straight to Video: A B-Movie Odyssey.
Also joining the panel is new filmmakers Harvey Li and Arthur Mah, creators of Keep Left, an official selection of the Dark Matters Film Festival. The panel is moderated by writer/director Andrea Beca.
“For the Love of Horror” takes place at 2:00pm at the Shaw Theatre (11762 106 St NW, Edmonton, AB) during March Madness, the action-packed professional development day sponsored by AMPIA, NAIT, Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Film and Telefilm.
